Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park

By 10:23:00 ,

Over the April school holidays we packed up our gear and headed out on our first ever camping trip ... with four children!

Everyone was looking at me like I had lost my mind, but I had been waiting for this day since last April. I have wanted to get the kids out into the world and to see things from a different perspective. It is one thing to be air conditioned in a cabin or heated in a holiday house, but camping in a tent really forces you out into nature.

So our first trip saw us at ....

TORQUAY FORESHORE CARAVAN PARK

Upon our arrival, we were met with the loveliest of ladies in the reception. She was extremely nice and helpful. You could tell she knew her stuff and you were in great hands. She explained how everything works, handed us the toilet block key and coloured our map to where our site was located.

Locating the site was another story! We soon found that the combined eyesight of Mikayla and I isn't up to scratch when looking for the campsite numbers in this park! They are small and hidden and Mik did have to get out of the car to find it. BUT we did find it!

Our site was located near the toilet block on a corner and internally, I was screaming! Why near the toilets??? Why on a corner??? I had visions of cars cutting the corner and hitting our tent ... lucky it didn't happen!

We set up and organised all our camping boxes and table and before we knew it, it was done. Looking around us, we realised what an awesome spot we had. Granted we were located next to the sewage dump for the camper vans and caravans, but it wasn't a bother at all. We had the playground at the end of the short road, toilet block close-but not next door, laundry facilities next the toilets and BBQ area too. The just a few metres in front of us is Bell Street, one of the main areas in Torquay.

Later that day we took a walk through park, it is quiet a maze, with streets coming off here and there but plenty of room for everyone. There is beach access from the opposite side of the park, taking you straight down onto Torquay's main surf beach.

The view from the lookout at the edge of the caravan park.

The amenities on site were fantastic! Thinking back to my youth (all those years ago) some toilets were pretty horrific! The toilets were well maintained, clean and all functioning. Adequate basins and bench space too. Due to privacy reasons, I didn't take photo's in the showers or toilets ... sorry guys, I know you wanted to see! The showers were good, once we worked out how to use them! They are timed, you are only allowed four minutes which was fun for the kids, not so much for me when I was rinsing the last of the conditioner out and my shower turns cold! EEK! We run like a well oiled machine most days so it was ok for us! (sarcasm)

Laundry room was an added bonus for us too. With two fully functional washers and two fully functional dryers, we were able to stay on top of those dirty and sandy outfits, towels and bathers. The Laundry room also was fitted with two sinks for rinsing or a quick hand wash. Each machine was $3 per use and only took gold coins, so I was forever saving them up!

The kids were beyond excited by the play equipment. It was a kid haven and they spent a lot of their time out there playing. The jumping pillow was a hit with all that stayed, kids jumping from open til close! The pillow itself was large enough to accomodate a large group of kids, with an area for the little ones to jump safely too.

The play area was suited to children of all ages, with a pirate ship theme and plenty to keep the old kids entertained, there was no lack of imagination here.  In addition to the play area, there is a large oval that you would find the kids out kicking a footy or having a game of cricket.

The park boasts a complete camp kitchen as well as the several BBQ areas located throughout the park. There are a total of 9 amenities blocks throughout as well. And a bonus for miss teenager was the recreation room which was fitted with couches, table tennis table AND FREE WIFI ... YES you heard right, FREE WIFI ... should have seen the smiles then!

The highlights for me were the location; we didn't have to drive much while we were there as all the basics are at your doorstep and the larger shopping centres are a 15-20 minute walk away. Torquay is a stunning location, with an array of restaurants and take away shops to help out on those lazy days when you don't feel like heating up the cooker or BBQ. I was also impressed with the maintenance on the entire park, every amenities block was well looked after and the park kept clean. Plus there was enough space for the kids to play happily and safely. Obviously the beach access is an attractive feature too, with my little groms.

I couldn't recommend this park more! There really wasn't much to fault as we felt safe, enjoyed the park and its facilities and the staff were exceptionally helpful ... even when we booked an extra couple of nights! So a huge 41/2 stars for our stay!
